The fallout from the Nobitex hack is expanding beyond missing funds.

The $90 million breach of Iran’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, which took place on 18 June, has now been linked to a potential espionage case involving Israeli and Iranian operatives.

According to blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs, three Israeli citizens were arrested on 24 June for allegedly spying for Iran, and the hack may have played a key role in their exposure.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 28, are believed to have been recruited by Iranian handlers and were reportedly paid in cryptocurrency.

Their tasks included photographing military sites, tagging pro-Iranian graffiti, tracking the movements of senior officials, and gathering surveillance data.

Israeli authorities claim that some of the crypto transactions linked to the suspects were traceable on-chain and may have been identified using data leaked from Nobitex.

## Gonjeshke Darande claims responsibility for breach

The attack on Nobitex was carried out by the pro-Israeli hacking group Gonjeshke Darande, also known as Predatory Sparrow.

The group, known for targeting Iranian-linked infrastructure, has previously engaged in cyber operations believed to serve intelligence purposes.

Following the June 18 breach, Nobitex’s internal systems were compromised, and over $90 million in digital assets were drained.

The attackers subsequently leaked sensitive data, including potential wallet details, Know Your Customer (KYC) records, and internal communications.

This leak was published just one day after the hack, suggesting a high level of access and coordination.

Although there is no confirmed direct link between the Nobitex breach and the arrests, TRM Labs indicated that leaked data from the exchange may have assisted Israeli authorities in identifying crypto payments and associated user data linked to the espionage case.

## Crypto payments, on-chain tracking, and evidence

According to TRM Labs, the arrested individuals received thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency in exchange for carrying out intelligence tasks.

These payments were channelled through anonymised systems but eventually traced using blockchain analysis.

The crypto transfers formed a crucial part of the evidence used in the investigation.

At the same time, investigators uncovered suspicious historical fund flows from Nobitex.

These included structured transactions designed to bypass detection and linkages to wallets previously flagged for illicit activity.

The TRM analysis indicates that the same infrastructure used by operatives to receive payments may have been exposed during the hack.

The native Tron token TRX traded at $0.27 on Friday, June 27, with CoinMarketCap showing the price was down under 1%. Intraday highs for the altcoin range around $0.29, and TRON remains in the top 10 by market cap.

As the crypto market eyes gains and stablecoin adoption grows, Glassnode has shared details that reveal a dramatic rise in Tether (USDT) supply on the TRON network.

Notably, the Tether-issued US dollar-pegged token has surpassed the $80 billion supply mark as of mid-2025.

As seen in the chart by Glassnode, there’s a steep upward trajectory, reflecting TRON’s increasing role in facilitating stablecoin transactions.

USDT in circulation currently sits at around $157.4 billion. With more than half of the total circulating USDT at $80 billion is dominance that solidifies TRON’s position as a preferred blockchain for stablecoin settlements, outpacing competitors like Ethereum.

The network’s efficiency and low transaction costs have likely driven this adoption, with institutional and remittance use cases further fueling demand.

May 2025 saw a record $684 billion in transfer volume, while 283 million USDT transfers this year highlight explosive user adoption.

## TRON price prediction

Currently priced at $0.27 with a 24-hour trading volume of $407 million, TRON has shown resilience.

While price has recently dipped from highs of $0.29, bulls have held above the key support level of $0.20 since early January.

The surge in USDT supply is a bullish signal, as it boosts network usage and attracts more users to TRON’s ecosystem, including DeFi and payment applications.

Looking at the price outlook, several catalysts could drive TRX’s price higher.

The potential launch of TRON-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs) could attract institutional investment, mirroring trends seen with Bitcoin and Ethereum.

## XRP bullish despite latest legal hurdle

XRP held steady above $2.00, with the price up 0.58% in 24 hours at the time of writing to trade above $2.11 

The altcoin was holding the key level despite a legal setback after Judge Torres denied a joint SEC/Ripple motion to end an XRP institutional sales injunction. The motion for an indicative ruling also sought the court’s decision on Ripple and the SEC settlement over the $125 million penalty imposed on the company.

XRP nonetheless remains bullish amid ETFs anticipation, stablecoin growth, and regulatory developments.

## Euler (EUL) price soars, just shy of all-time high

Euler Finance, a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol, saw its token EUL surge by 27% to highs of $11.13. The gains meant the EUL price was just shy of the all-time high of $12.97 reached in September 2022.

Gains aligned with buying pressure as daily volume spiked over 200%. Also notable is the growth of the recently launched DEX protocol EulerSwap, which hit over $230 million in volume just weeks after its debut.

Pudgy Penguins (PENGU) climbed 12% to $0.0104, driven by ecosystem developments 

Mainly, the PENGU price has risen in the past three days after Cboe submitted its 19b-4 filing for the listing of Canary Capital’s PENGU ETF. 

The ETF, one of many on small-cap altcoins, will hold 80-95% in PENGU tokens and 5-15% in Pudgy Penguin NFTs.

## Top crypto losers today

While several altcoins showed upward momentum, a number tanked hard to rank as the top crypto losers in the past 24 hours. Across Protocol (ACX) and Sahara AI (SAHARA) were among the biggest losers in the top 500 coins by market cap 

In the top 100 coins by market cap, CoinMarketCap data shows today’s worst performers include SPX6900 (SPX), Celestia (TIA), and Injective (INJ). 

ACX, TIA, and INJ were down between 2 and 3%, trading at $1.18, $1.43, and $10.54, respectively.
