The French central bank allocated 27 million dollars for cryptocurrency

The French state-owned bank, Bpifrance, has just announced a plan to spend 25 million euros (27 million USD) to purchase cryptocurrencies to support domestic blockchain and cryptocurrency projects.

In a press release on March 27, Bpifrance emphasized its commitment to investing in startup projects "with a strong French imprint," while also receiving tokens from these investments. The bank also aims to fund areas like DeFi, staking, asset tokenization ( and artificial intelligence )AI(.

This investment program is backed by the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, with the aim of "promoting emerging technologies and strengthening the country's blockchain ecosystem." Bpifrance notes that, although the global blockchain ecosystem is growing robustly, the number of French investment funds participating in this field remains limited.

The French Minister of Digital and Artificial Intelligence, Clara Chappaz, affirmed that the combination of public and private funding is "one of the key factors helping our ecosystem to sustainably reach an international level."

The Deputy General Director of Bpifrance, Mr. Arnaud Caudoux, also expressed confidence in the great potential of blockchain companies in the future. He emphasized that Bpifrance aims to enhance competitiveness and strengthen France's position in the field of digital assets.

"In the U.S., the cryptocurrency strategy is being ramped up, so this is a particularly important time," Caudoux stated at a press conference. He also mentioned that Bpifrance has been pioneering support for cryptocurrency even before the U.S. began its moves to support this sector.

Bpifrance has supported the blockchain industry for over a decade, with an investment of more than 150 million euros )162 million USD(, including funding the cryptocurrency wallet company Ledger in 2014.

Since 2022, this bank has been experimenting with investments through tokens, notably the purchase of tokens from the DeFi lending platform Morpho. Currently, Morpho has developed into the 12th largest DeFi protocol in the world with a total value of up to 3.23 billion USD.

According to PitchBook's forecast, venture capital funds )VC( will pour more than 18 billion USD into the cryptocurrency sector this year, a significant increase from the 13.6 billion USD in 2024.

Typically, when launching a token, cryptocurrency platforms will allocate a portion of the supply to financial investors with different lock-up conditions to prevent immediate sell-offs. A portion of the token supply is also often released early to certain users to boost liquidity. However, this can create downward price pressure if investors quickly take profits.
