Unbelievable coincidence: Could Jack Dorsey be Satoshi Nakamoto?
The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, has been a mystery for many years. Recently, Seán Murray, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of the financial news site deBanked, suggested that Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter (X) and Block (Square), could be the figure that the world has been searching for.
Historical evidence and connection to the cypherpunk community Jack Dorsey has a long history with the cypherpunk movement, the community of cryptography enthusiasts, and internet privacy. In 1996, he was one of about 1,300 confirmed cypherpunks, using an email from the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR). Notably, UMR students at the time were called "Miners" (thợ đào) – a term closely related to Bitcoin. Dorsey was once a student majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics with a special passion for crypto. He is also a member of the (ACM) Computer Society from 1997 to around 1999, and has developed software for submitting and evaluating research documents for Mira Digital Publishing. In addition, he is proficient in many programming languages such as C, Python, Java, Perl, PHP, OCaml, JoCaml, Lisp, Objective-C... In 2001, an American entrepreneur wrote a declaration about creating an impact without leaving a trace - a concept similar to Satoshi's operational philosophy. He also subscribed to cryptome.org that year. Many coincidences to the point of being unbelievable Below are some events related to Dorsey that astonishingly coincide with the journey of the father of Bitcoin: On 17/08/2008, Jack Dorsey tweeted a line related to sailors: "Around the horn and home again, for that's the sailor's way." Just one day after Bitcoin.org was registered. Jack's Twitter profile from September 2007 to January 2009 stated that he was a sailor. Interestingly, the origin of Bitcoin contains the sailor's proverb "Never go to sea with two chronometers; take one or three." The original Bitcoin documents all have accurate timestamps at 4 AM, matching Jack Dorsey's profile information. Satoshi Nakamoto also participated in the Bitcoin forum on Jack Dorsey's birthday (19/11) and made the first Bitcoin transaction on his mother's birthday (11/01/2009). On 10/01/2009, Satoshi accidentally revealed his real IP address when logging into IRC, showing that he was in California - where Jack Dorsey was living at the time. On 03/05/2010, Satoshi mined the final Bitcoin block, coinciding with Dorsey's father's birthday. The disappearance of Satoshi and the milestone of Jack Dorsey's career One notable detail is that Satoshi Nakamoto stopped posting on the Bitcoin forum on December 13, 2010, just one day before Twitter was asked to provide data related to WikiLeaks by a secret court order. This coincided with Jack Dorsey facing pressure as CEO of Square and then becoming Executive Chairman of Twitter on March 28, 2011. Satoshi sent his last email on April 23, 2011. Less than a month later, Twitter considered integrating Bitcoin payments. In 2012, Jack Dorsey publicly called Bitcoin "a great movement" and Square recognized the coin two years later. Indirect suggestion from Jack Dorsey Over the years, Jack Dorsey has had many suggestive actions regarding his relationship with Satoshi Nakamoto: In January 2018, Square released a children's book about the 'Legend of Satoshi Nakamoto', in which the character Satoshi is said to resemble Dorsey. In April 2020, when asked by Lex Fridman if he was Satoshi, Jack replied, 'I won't admit it even if I am Satoshi.' In May 2020, 145 long-standing Bitcoin wallets signed a message denying Craig Wright's claim to be Satoshi. Notably, the oldest Bitcoin address in this group starts with '1jak' - a nickname that Jack Dorsey once used. In 2022, Jack Dorsey started wearing a T-shirt with 'Satoshi' at public events, first at Michael Saylor's podcast, and then at the Super Bowl. On 27/10/2023, at a conference, Dorsey declared: "Bitcoin and Satoshi in 2009 is a combination of my childhood, curiosity, and all that I aspire to become." In July 2024, Jack wrote on Nostr: "I often imagine Satoshi sitting somewhere and laughing at all of this." In August 2024, Jack thanks Hal Finney (, one of the first people to participate in Bitcoin) on Nostr, further reinforcing suspicions about his relationship with Satoshi Nakamoto. Whether Jack Dorsey is really Satoshi Nakamoto remains an unanswered question. However, the incredible evidence and coincidence have raised strong doubts in the cryptocurrency community. If Satoshi was an artist who created Bitcoin as a great work of art, then Jack Dorsey seems to have dedicated his life to protecting and developing it in his own way. Before Jack Dorsey, the crypto community speculated that Len Sassaman, Hal Finney, Adam Back, and American cryptographer Nick Szabo were Satoshi Nakamoto. The documentary film "Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery" premiered on 10/09/2024, produced by HBO, also claimed to unveil the true identity of the "father" of Bitcoin. However, after airing, the film received a series of criticisms for making baseless speculations, lacking understanding of Bitcoin technology, and failing to prove that Peter Todd is the creator of Bitcoin.
