Canadian court rules in favor of crypto: Funds can't be frozen - Bitcoin news - Uzmancoin - Cryptocurrency and Blockchain
In 2022, a federal court issued a landmark ruling that will deal a blow to the Trudeau government for the truck and truck protests that hit Canada. The court ruled that there was no state of emergency that would require a decision to freeze the bank accounts and cryptocurrencies of people who supported the protesters.
In the ruling announced yesterday, Judge Richard Mosley said: "There was no national state of emergency. Therefore, the use of the relevant law was both unreasonable and unconstitutional," he said.
As it will be remembered, in February 2022, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his government decided to freeze funds for the first time in the country and pointed to the emergency law as the reason for this.
Truck and truck drivers transporting goods between Canada and the U.S. protested the rule that all those crossing the U.S. border must be fully vaccinated, and the border line was closed for days. The protesters also received support from a certain part of the population and received financial aid, including cryptocurrencies.
At the time, the Trudeau government claimed that the drivers' protest was illegal and froze funds under emergency law.
