Unsettling weekend glitch in Bitcoin: Stopped for 2 hours! - Coin Newsletter

Bitcoin (BTC) had a network problem for 2 hours over the weekend.

According to the data of the on-chain platform mempool, which provides information about the Bitcoin network, the Bitcoin network could not produce blocks for about 2 hours between 16.51 and 18.53 on January 7.

The glitch occurred in the 824717 and 824718 block range, with a total of 122 minutes of being inactive. In 2021, the Bitcoin network also experienced 2 different problems** where no blocks were produced for about 2 hours.

On the Bitcoin network, in June last year, it took 1.5 hours to produce the 793,099th block after the 793,098th block. While this situation was recorded as the longest outage in 2023, one of the biggest outages occurred even though we have just entered 2024.

The Bitcoin network was congested due to BRC-20 tokens, and delays occurred from time to time.

According to data from CoinGecko, Bitcoin, which has fallen 0.1% in the last 24 hours, is trading at $43,987 at the time of writing.
