Has the sunken Bitcoin exchange started refunds? Users Shared Receipts! Here are the details!
Creditors of the long-defunct Bitcoin exchange Mt.Gox claim that they have started receiving fiat reimbursements for their Bitcoin almost a decade after the exchange shut down.
Mt.Gox Creditors Reportedly Received Reimbursement After Almost A Decade
In posts on the Reddit page r/mtgoxinsolvency, users claim that they have started receiving refunds in Japanese Yen via PayPal.
The funds had been locked in Mt. Gox since it closed on February 24, 2014. While this news has yet to be officially confirmed, it has sparked great hope among creditors who have been waiting for nearly a decade to recoup their losses.
A Reddit user named Free-end254 shared a screenshot of an email containing a PayPal receipt and wrote, "I just got paid."
This development follows an email sent on Nov. 21 by Nobuaki Kobayashi, the trustee who oversees Mt. Gox's estate, informing creditors of the start of repayments.
The email said the first refunds would be launched in cash in 2023 and the process would continue until 2024. However, the exact timeline for individual reimbursements was not specified.
