According to ChainCatcher news and a report by Cointelegraph, Ethereum researcher Justin Drake stated that launching a 51% attack on Bitcoin is cheaper than on Ethereum, costing about 10 billion USD. He pointed out that to take control of the Ethereum chain, one needs to control over 50% of the staked ETH, currently valued at nearly 44.8 billion USD, with the actual cost possibly being higher. Drake emphasized that Ethereum's PoS mechanism has social layer defenses, capable of identifying and socially punishing attackers, whereas Bitcoin's PoW lacks this mechanism. Experts believe that, although there are theoretical risks, the threshold for launching a 51% attack in reality is extremely high for both BTC and ETH.
