In response to a reporter's question on the high-level economic and trade talks between China and the United States, the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the United States said that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce have already expressed their positions on the high-level economic and trade talks between China and the United States. I would like to emphasize the following three points: First, the US side has recently taken the initiative to convey information to China through various channels and hopes to talk with China on tariffs and other issues. The Chinese side decided to agree to engage with the US side after carefully assessing the US information. The talks were held at the request of the US side. 2. China's resolute opposition to the indiscriminate tariffs imposed by the United States is consistent and will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, international fairness and justice, and uphold WTO rules and the multilateral trading system. Third, this tariff war was provoked by the United States. If the US really wants to resolve the issue through dialogue and negotiation, it should stop threatening and pressuring and engage in dialogue with China on the basis of equality, respect and reciprocity.
