Cellula launches the vPOW protocol: a new paradigm for gamified asset distribution simulating Bitcoin Mining.
vPOW: A gamified asset issuance protocol that simulates POW Mining
Since the rise of ERC-20 assets in 2017, Web3 has entered an era of low-threshold asset issuance. Various projects issue tokens or NFTs through methods such as IDO and ICO, but there are common issues of strong control and lack of transparency, frequently leading to RugPull incidents. To this day, the fairness flaws of traditional IDOs and ICOs have been fully exposed, and the industry has been hoping for a more fair and reliable asset issuance protocol to solve many problems during the TGE of new projects.
The Cellula project offers a new perspective by implementing an asset distribution layer that simulates POW. It utilizes virtual proof of work (vPOW) to "mine" the asset distribution process, simulating a fairer asset allocation paradigm compared to Bitcoin. Although many view it as GameFi, Cellula can theoretically serve as a general asset distribution platform with POW effects, bringing broader prospects for Web3 asset issuance.
The core of Cellula introduces the famous "Conway's Game of Life" algorithm, allocating computing power for the on-chain virtual digital entity ( called "BitLife". Simply put, it's like allowing participants to breed cell clusters in their own petri dishes. As time progresses, the more living cells in a participant's petri dish, the higher the mining power calculated, and the more likely they are to receive mining rewards.
This actually replaces the hash computation of traditional POW with another computation method whose results are difficult to predict. In Cellula, the key is how to obtain more petri dishes with living cells ) BitLife (. Inferring the state changes of BitLife requires computational resources, essentially transforming the hashing algorithm of Bitcoin Mining into a specific algorithm for simulating Conway's Game of Life.

Cellula divides the "petri dish" into 99=81 squares, with each square having two states for the cells: alive or dead. By permutation and combination, the initial state of the cells in the petri dish has 2^81 possibilities, which is an astronomical number. What players need to do is input the parameter ) to select the initial pattern of the petri dish (. BitLife acts as the entity of the petri dish ), which is actually an NFT ( containing 81 squares. Each BitLife is made up of 2 to 9 BitCells, with each BitCell being a unit composed of 33=9 adjacent squares.

The cell state of BitLife changes with the increase of block height. Cellula allocates computing power according to the state of BitLife at different block heights. At a given block height, the more living cells included, the higher the computing power of BitLife, which effectively creates a virtual mining machine.
The player's goal is to construct or purchase the BitLife that is most likely to earn mining rewards. This model is equivalent to allowing ordinary users to develop their own "mining machines," which they can then sell to others or buy others' "mining machines" for mining. If one wants to create their own "mining machine," they must simulate the state evolution of different models of BitLife off-chain, which will consume computational resources. If one wants to buy someone else's "mining machine," it actually means buying BitLife with different initial models, and still requires off-chain calculations to determine its future state changes.

The system distributes a certain amount of Mining rewards every 5 minutes, referred to as energy points in the game, based on the computing power share of each BitLife in the network. The process of players synthesizing BitLife is essentially a process of "manufacturing" new mining machines. Once BitLife is minted on the chain, it needs to undergo a "charging" operation to start mining, with a single charge valid for 1 day, 3 days, or 7 days, requiring a small transaction fee, and it needs to be recharged after expiry.

To encourage users to charge more for BitLife, Cellula has set up a "charging lottery" feature, where each charging operation may be selected to receive additional rewards. This utilizes a random number output algorithm called Analysoor, which takes the block hash as an input parameter for the random number generator, drawing winners from the participants who charged in each block, introducing a lottery system.
To prevent a certain pattern of BitLife from being mass-followed for minting, Cellula has introduced a variable rate progressive Dutch auction ) VRGDAs ( pricing algorithm, which will dynamically adjust prices - raising them when minting exceeds expectations and lowering them when it falls short. This exponential price change can effectively guard against scientists.
From the perspective of player competition, there are multiple participants in vPOW, each with different strategies. Taking the primary issuance market as an example, "scientists" can program combinations of different BitCells to find high-performance BitLife; MEV players will monitor on-chain minting events, and when they discover that an NB scientist is minting a certain type of BitLife, they will follow suit and mint in large quantities. However, the VRGDAs algorithm will cause the minting price of a single type of BitLife to grow exponentially, effectively preventing scientists, while also pricing BitLife/"mining machines".
Compared to the Bitcoin mining machine industry chain, the Cellula solution is a more interesting social experiment. It lowers the threshold for "mining machine R&D," allowing "everyone to have the opportunity to become a scientist." Whether scientists, project parties, or ordinary players, no one can unilaterally control the market, creating a dynamic balance. Overall, Cellula provides a fairer and more reliable paradigm for asset distribution than IDO, ICO, etc., and is worth further attention for its development.
