The State Duma of Russia is drafting a bill to promote the widespread use of digital payments in rubles.

Gate News bot news, more and more countries are introducing Central Bank Digital Money (CBDC) as part of their payment systems. The State Duma of Russia (equivalent to the U.S. House of Representatives) has approved a preliminary reading of a bill aimed at preparing for the introduction of the digital ruble (i.e., the Central Bank Digital Currency of Russia) into the Russian economy.

The bill was first discussed by the State Duma's Financial Market Committee, establishing the concept of a universal QR code, which banks and retailers will adopt to simplify the payment process using Digital Money.

If ultimately approved, companies will have three years to deploy the QR code. Nevertheless, authorities will still require remittance operators to provide customers with transfer details or links in the form of a universal payment code starting from January 1, 2026.

The introduction of the bill and its announced date suggest that the Digital Money Ruble will be fully launched next year.
