Sources: Trump wants to help Ukraine in air defense.
Jin10 data reported on July 4th that a Ukrainian official and informed sources stated that Trump told Ukrainian President Zelensky during a call on Friday that due to the escalating attacks from Russia, the United States hopes to assist Ukraine with air defense. Earlier this week, the Pentagon suspended the shipment of weapons to the Ukrainian military, including air defense interception equipment and communication devices. This decision surprised both Ukraine and many officials in the U.S. government. Two sources indicated that the call between Trump and Zelensky lasted about 40 minutes and mainly discussed Ukraine's air defense needs. One source said Trump learned about the recent escalation from Russia, including airstrikes on Ukrainian cities and the front lines. Trump stated that he wanted to provide assistance in air defense and would check in if anything interrupted. Zelensky wrote on social media that he and Trump talked about "opportunities for air defense." On Thursday, Trump spoke with Russian President Putin regarding the issue of Ukraine but later emphasized that no progress had been made. Putin told Trump that Russia would not abandon its goals in Ukraine, while Trump expressed great disappointment over the conversation with Putin.
