Filecoin is proving its position as an important decentralized data platform in Web3. A series of recent updates show that the network not only serves storage but also expands into AI, DePIN infrastructure, and connects with major blockchain ecosystems.

1. Faster confirmation thanks to F3 upgrade

Previously, Filecoin took up to 7 hours to achieve finality. With the F3 upgrade, this time has been reduced to a few minutes, making Filecoin more suitable for applications that require quick responses such as L2 rollups, subnets, or IPC systems.

2. Over 500,000 digital artifacts are permanently stored.

Many large organizations such as MIT and Flickr have stored content on Filecoin, including recordings of Alexander Graham Bell, MIT OCW teaching materials, and millions of archived photos. All are protected by a data verification mechanism, ensuring integrity.

The applications on Avalanche can now store KYC data, system logs, and historical data on Filecoin, helping to offload the processing layer and ensuring that the data is protected by cryptographic proofs.

4. Filecoin implements a hot storage model with PDP

In addition to traditional cold storage, Filecoin now supports hot storage – allowing for quick retrieval without sealing through the Proof of Data Possession mechanism (PDP). PDP and PoRep operate in parallel, helping to balance latency and sustainability.
