Odaily Planet Daily News Citigroup economists have abandoned their forecast of a 50 basis point rate cut by the Fed at its meeting next week, and now expect a 25 basis point cut at the meeting, while maintaining their expectation of a total cut of 125 basis points this year. Economist Andrew Hollenhorst wrote in a report that the CPI data for August, which was released on Wednesday, "may only be enough to convince the FOMC to cut rates by 25 basis points at next week's meeting, rather than 50 basis points." However, the labor market "will still be the policymakers' main concern", and we still expect a total rate cut of 125 basis points this year, with 50 basis points cut in November and December respectively. Citigroup previously predicted rate cuts of 50 basis points in September and November, and 25 basis points in December. (Jin10)
