CNN: Trump wants to "boil the frog in warm water," Powell vows to uphold Fed independence.
On July 25, Jin10 reported that Fed Chairman Powell has told several close friends and allies that he will never yield to Trump's calls for him to resign and vowed to stay in his position. According to insiders, Powell has privately emphasized that he must remain in office, not only for personal reasons but also because his position is inextricably linked to the independence of the Fed. Republican Senator Mike Rounds, who personally asked Powell whether he was considering resigning, stated, "He is very firm in his belief that he has a responsibility to maintain this independence." Reports suggest that Trump's strategy with his team appears to be to make Powell's term as painful as possible, undermine his credibility, and force him to resign. One Trump advisor described this strategy as "boiling a frog in warm water": "Powell will either jump out or be 'boiled.'" Despite the White House's aggressive stance, Powell has told colleagues that he will focus entirely on formulating monetary policy without political influence.
