The U.S. Department of Justice has charged 4 North Koreans in a $1 million cryptocurrency theft case.
Four North Korean citizens have been charged in Georgia with online fraud and money laundering after posing as remote IT employees at American and Serbian blockchain companies, stealing nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Kim Kwang Jin, Kang Tae Bok, Jong Pong Ju, and Chang Nam Il used false identities to conceal their North Korean nationality and operated from the United Arab Emirates before working at a startup in Atlanta. They exploited privileged access to steal $915,000, which they then laundered through mixing services. The DOJ conducted raids across 16 states, seizing numerous financial accounts and computers, aiming to disrupt North Korea's illegal activities.
